Working with Bluezones, MWCD and ACDC we are working on a potential plan to make Atwood Lake a Bluezone. 

4/12/2023 

• Our leadership team met with Blue Zones today to begin the process of transforming the Atwood Lake region into a community oriented healthy place to live. Instead of focusing on individual behavior change,  Blue Zones helps communities make permanent and semi-permanent changes  to optimize access to healthy choices, and to create opportunities for the community to engage with one another. It’s an environmental approach to well-being.

Policy Team meeting on April 12th resulted in an initiative for "the built environment"     Full Bluezone concept will not be utilized for the moment we will working with a smaller initiative focused on connecting community vibrancy and connectivity 

Proposal presented by Bluezones for analysis and further consideration- if we want to move forward there are resources allocated for the July timeframe.

Goal is to get policy advisors from the Bluezone and understanding Grant process for funding of assessment and recommendations

Route 542 improvements geared toward community not driving

Pathways and crosswalks across 542.

Bike lanes on the entirety of 542 around the lake. Also Rt 212 from 542 to Atwood Lake Rd

Improve existing trails and connect all trails – circle the lake.

Housing – be attentive to problems of gentrification in the area. Do not duplicate the hundreds of towns and neighborhoods that fill up with the monetarily rich who end up with no services or real community because there is no affordable housing, food and recreation for those with less means.
